Solar Technologies

US Department of Energy – Solar Technologies Program
The Solar Energy Technologies program focuses on developing cost-effective solar-energy technologies that have the greatest potential to benefit our nation and the world. Solar technologies diversify our energy supply, reduce our dependence on imported fuels, improve air quality, and offset greenhouse gas emissions. A growing solar industry also stimulates our economy by creating jobs in solar manufacturing and installation.
Photovoltaics PV systems use semiconductor materials that convert sunlight directly to electricity.

Solar Heating Solar collectors absorb the sun’s energy to provide low-temperature heat used directly for hot water or space heating for residential or commercial buildings.

Solar America Initiative The Solar America Initiative is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) effort to accelerate the development of advanced solar energy technologies. The goal is to make solar electricity from photovoltaics (PV) cost-competitive with conventional forms of electricity from the utility grid by 2015.
Utah Solar & Alternative Energy – Utah Solar & Alternative Energy provides the sale, design and installation of  solar electricity, solar hot water & passive solar lighting (sky lights & light tunnels) to residential, business and government entities. In addition we provide energy efficient building consulting to our clients.

Solar Sales Consultant

The Harris-Dudley Company is a 3rd generation, family-owned mechanical contracting company with over 75 years experience in the residential and light commercial market in Utah and Idaho.

We specialize in:

  • Plumbing.
  • HVAC.
  • Radiant heat & cooling.
  • Snowmelt.
  • Solar thermal renewable energy.
  • Ground source heat/cooling renewable energy.
  • Water treatment.
  • Residential mechanical automation.

We have been installing modern radiant heat systems since 1992 utilizing high efficiency, condensing boilers with thermal efficiencies of 90% or better. We are one of a very few local mechanical contractors that provide design and installation of mechanical systems in-house, that include highly efficient and renewable energy technologies.

We are currently in various stages of installation on several solar thermal systems, most notably a large DHW system at the Park City Mountain Resort’s Mid-Mountain lodge and an off-grid mountain cabin that (as far as we know) is the first residential solar thermal system that includes an unoccupied mode to utilize the radiant slab as a solar thermal battery to limit the use of propane to keep the home from freezing in the winter months. We have experience with all types of instantaneous hot water systems, heat recovery ventilation (HRV), high-velocity forced air systems, hybrid boiler/domestic hot water systems, and we are currently investigating the Matrix Combi system that incorporates a Condensing Water Heater, Condensing Furnace, Condensing Boiler and Heat Recovery Ventilator all pre-packed in one super efficient unit.
